Athlete of the Month - October 2017

Starboard CrossFit Star Athlete of the Month

We are always paying close attention to each and every individual member here at Starboard CrossFit. We're not just looking to help them get fit, improve themselves and achieve their goals... each month, we like choose an exceptional athlete that goes above and beyond the call of duty; an athlete that stands out as a shining example of an exemplary Starboard CrossFit athlete and family member. Definitely not an easy task with all of the amazing athletes we have!

Then we ask them to share their story in the hopes that it will inspire and motivate others. Most importantly we want to recognize those dedicated members for their hard work and accomplishments, and show the local community that ANYONE can be a CrossFitter. All you have to do is make the choice to give it a try, set goals, and work hard. You may be surprised at what you will accomplish!

Starboard CrossFit | Athlete of the Month | Octobber 2017 | Rafael Mendes

This month, we are very excited to honor an athlete that I've seen grow from the very beginning of his CrossFit journey two years ago. Quiet, humble but always working hard; check out our Star Athlete of the Month for October, Rafael Mendes!

Rafael is one of the hardest working and most dedicated athletes I've met in a long, long time. You'll see him regularly in our afternoon and weekend crew. A man of few words, Rafael let's his actions and achievements speak for him. Rafael takes his fitness serious, doesn't let his ego get in the way and knows you gotta start at the bottom and grind hard everyday if you wanna be great.

Outside the box, Rafael is a hard-working, devoted husband and father. In the box, you can find him before class warming up or stretching and staying late after doing accessory work, improving weaknesses and perfecting his craft.

Rafael and his wife, Polyne, were some of the very first members to jump on board with us before Starboard CrossFit became reality and even before we had a name. Rafael and his team of employees were the key ingredient to our most recent expansion when tore down a wall and installed supports to open up the new athlete lounge area. From setting the example to take care of and wipe down your equipment after use to making sure our little future crossfitters have a safe, secure and fun place to hang out while mom & dad work out, Rafael and his family have been there in so many ways these last six months to help Starboard CrossFit what it is today.

Like so many of our other athletes Rafael dedication, drive and intensity has helped him grow and continue to become stronger and healthier. He has set the perfect example and, as always, inspires other athletes to follow.
